## Source content

# EM-0044 - Public layout density correction

## Problem

The EM-0043 Register adapter is materially clearer than the prior site, but the deployed desktop
layout underuses the canvas. At a 1692 px viewport, `main` is 1080 px wide and begins 306 px from
the left edge. Repeated 112 px metadata rails then move human content another 128 px inward. The
homepage mission bridge leaves its action in the reading column, and the About problem section
stacks all three paragraphs in column two, leaving a visibly empty rail under the heading.

## Bounded correction

1. Increase the shared desktop register from 1080 px to 1320 px while retaining 16 px minimum
viewport gutters and the existing prose measures.
2. Reduce the repeated metadata register from 112 px to 88 px.
3. Give the homepage mission bridge a useful 220 px heading/action rail and a fluid reading column.
4. Distribute the three existing About problem paragraphs over two reading columns, with the final
paragraph spanning both, while retaining the existing source order and text.
5. Keep the established mobile collapse at 760 px and explicitly reset editorial grid placement.

## Validation

1. Extend focused stylesheet and semantic-output tests for the revised width, register, and
   editorial-grid rules.
2. Build and serve the disposable public projection.
3. Compare representative desktop screenshots and computed rectangles against the deployed
EM-0043 release; verify 390 px overflow and structure separately.
4. Run `PYTHONPATH=src make check PYTHON=python3.11` and record the exact tested commit and limits.
5. Obtain exact-head independent review before protected merge. Deployment remains a separate
   release action.

## Status

- 2026-09-01: owner reviewed the live EM-0043 release and requested a correction for excessive
left whitespace. Live browser review confirmed the 1080 px outer register, 112 px repeated
metadata rails, an unused mission-bridge heading rail below its heading, and a stacked
second-column About problem section. Implementation began from exact main
  `b6bf5f53cc249c8c5e41d39bbdc0c986b4dfb446` in a clean clone.
- 2026-09-01: implemented the 1320 px outer register, 88 px metadata rail, purposeful homepage
heading/action rail, and three-column desktop treatment for the About problem section. A local
browser audit covered 16 representative routes at both 1440 px and 390 px (32 observations):
every route retained one H1 and one shared stylesheet, loaded without scripts, and satisfied
`scrollWidth == clientWidth`. Focused interface tests passed (32 tests), and
`PYTHONPATH=src make check PYTHON=python3.11` completed with accepted-input validation,
projection audit, independent comparison, deterministic equality, and unchanged source-tree
state all green. Exact-commit validation and independent review remain before integration.
- 2026-09-01: owner identified light text on the light Register-adapted homepage method strip.
Live computed-style inspection measured approximately 1.06:1 contrast there and found the same
inherited-foreground defect in the About current-state panel. A 16-route live browser scan also
exposed shared faint, muted, and amber tokens below the 4.5:1 normal-text threshold on one or
more light site surfaces. The candidate explicitly resets foregrounds on both lightened panels,
darkens those shared tokens, and adds numeric WCAG contrast assertions. The rebuilt projection
produced zero text-contrast failures and no horizontal overflow across the same 16 routes at
both desktop and 390 px widths; computed styles on the two repaired panels now use dark ink and
green links on the light paper surface. Full exact-commit validation and renewed independent
  review remain before integration.
